Cofrancesco - DiLeone families
I've enjoyed reading guestbook comments and am trying to figure out where both of my parents lie on the family tree.  My mother, Cecilia Cofrancesco DiLeone, was born in Cerreto in 1906 and immigrated to the US in the early 1920's.  She passed away on May 28 at the age of 105.  I believe my father's family also originated in Cerreto.

info for your tree
pacifico:

nicolina pacelli in your cofrancesco tree was born 10/19/1842 in san salvatore, her parents were angelo raffaele pacelli born 03/21/1819 and angela merola born circa 1820 and were married 01/28/1842. angelo's father was nicolangelo.  i can only find one nicolangelo pacelli (born circa 1793) in the san salvatore records but i do not know with certainty this is his father.

pacelli aiuto

Caro Pacifico,

Cordialmente,

Tommaso

Umberto e Fernando (mio padre) insieme a Bardia

Cofrancesco Ancestor
My name is Michael Barberi and my family came from Cerreto Sannita.  The family surname was originally "Barbieri".  I have traced my ancestors to the early-mid 1500s in Cerreto from Church records, Civil records, Catasto Onciario, and Notary Records.  I have also researched some of the records of San Lorenzello and all the records of Pietraroja with respect to Barbieri's.  One of my ancestors married a Cofrancesco in Cerreto as shown below.

MR:  Giuseppe Barbieri, son of Vincenzo Barbieri and Maria Vittoria di Meola, MARRIES Maria Teresa Cofrancesco, daughter of Luigi Cofrancesco and Cristina Cappella, on 27 Mar 1835 in the Church of San Martino, Cerreto Sannita, Italy.

Giuseppe and Maria Teresa had 7 children.  At the present time, I am forward-tracing my Barbieri ancestors and their descendants to a current date; specifically, those of the emigration generation.  This included the 7 children of Giuseppe Barbieri and Maria Teresa Cofrancesco.  Vincenzo Barbieri, Giuseppe's father, was my G4 Grandfather.  Since the Cofrancesco family website mentioned that all the Cofrancesco's of Cerreto originated in San Lorenzello, my ancestral cousin Maria Teresa Cofrancesco must be related to your Cofrancesco family.  Do you have any information about Liugi Cofrancesco who was likely born in the late 1700s?  I was wondering if you could share any research you found about the Cofrancesco's from Cerreto.

About myself:  I was born and raised in Brooklyn, NY.  I now live in California and have been doing family research for the past 10 years; full time for the past 5 years.  I have about 85% of all Barbieri records (birth, marriage, death, other) from 1579-1899 along with all grandmothers (spouses of Barbieri) and at least their parents.  I have found that Notary Records, which I am a strong advocate of, can help fill holes and brick walls in your family tree.  These documents are often overlooked by most family genealogists because they are written in a complicated hand-written language: a combination of Latin, dialect Italian and notarial Gothic.  You need an expert to translate them.  Notary Records were often required in the 1500-1700s for such things as: Dowry Contracts (marriage contracts), Estate Settlements (involving Wills) and Land or Property Transactions.  Have you researched any Notary Records for Cofrancesco's?

With respect to my reseach in San Lorenzello for Barbieri's.  Findings: no Barbieri's found in the Catasto Oniciaro of 1743, no death records of any Barbieri's 1700-1737; no baptism records were available prior to 1585 (the Book of Baptisms were not in the Church during a visit).   Based on this research, although not complete, there were likely no Barbieri's living in San Lorenzello before 1743.  This is surprising since San Lorenzello is a short walk from Cerreto.  However, I did find many Barbieri's living in San Lorenzello during the period 1865-1890.  Some male Barbieri's married into the following families: Ciarlegio, Lavorgna, Aulino, Scanelli?, Scarrano?, and Cestari.  Some female Barbieri's married into the following families: Mattei, Giamattei, Tessitore, and Carlo.

Hope this is somewhat helpful.  If you can share any information with me, my direct email address is: michaelbarberi@yahoo.com.

Regards,

Mike Barberi
