3. The first and second generation in S. Lorenzello

We have a first generation of Colafrancisco / De Francisco / Francisci which includes:

  Giacomo born about 1544
and died on 23 August 1614

  Orsa born about 1549
and died on 2 November 1614

  Giovanni Donato born about 1550
and died on 29 April 1606

This first generation also includes:

Vito de Cola Francisco  cited as a seller of land in the casale of Civitella in a deed of 23 October 1587, probably born in 1550 or earlier

  Bernardino
Cola Fran.co
born around 1550 and father of Porzia, who married Pietro Baroni on 12 January 1601

Pietro Francisci  born around 1550 and father of Isabella who married Matteo of Massa Inferiore on 1 May 1602

  Orso Antonio
de Fran.co

born around 1550 and probably the father of Giovanni Lorenzo, who married Finizia Mattei on 11 January 1611

Different versions of the surname were purposely reported as they appeared in various records.  In reality it is the same family, as evidenced by the fact that often the same person will appear with "different" surnames in various records.

Were they all brothers?  Theoretically it is possible, although unfortunately there are currently no documents that prove this, or even provide clues.  Anyway this is the first generation of the Cofrancesco family for which we have documentation up to the present.

The remarkable fact is that in S. Lorenzello in the 1500s there were many families due to Cofrancesco.  This does not happen, not only in the same period but also for the next century, in any of the neighboring towns of S. Lorenzello, i.e. Cerreto, Massa, and S. Salvatore, where we will find Cofrancesco families permanently established only from the second half of the 1700s.

The second generation of Cofrancescos in S. Lorenzello, which is for the period between 1570 and 1600, is rather large.  This includes not only the already mentioned Vittoria, Giovanni Francesco, Giuliana, Mattia, Giovanni Lorenzo, Porzia, and Isabella, but also Magnifica, who died on 10 January 1623 at the age of 40, Ferrarina, who married Domenico Mattei on 26 November 1625, Camilla who married Scipione Tacinella on 1 June 1612, Giacomo who married Faustina Panella on 18 May 1621, and also Dorodea, Silvio, Pietro, Adorna, Angelella, Orsola, and Cornelia.
