Antonio Cofrancesco

Antonio Cofrancesco was born in 1876 and immigrated in 1890, leaving Naples on board the “SS Burgundies”, bound for New York.  He arrived on June 10, 1890, and was processed at the Barge Office in lower Manhattan.

However an Italian passport issued to him on March 3, 1899 authorizing him to travel to New York, has been found.  The passport was valid for one year.  It appears that he may have returned to Italy to bring his parents and younger sister to this country, before he married and raised a family.  Antonio initially lived with his brother Nicola at 410 East Street, New Haven, Connecticut. According to Marie Mongillo, her father Antonio later lived at a house at 151-153 County Street in New Haven.  He married Vincenza Pesticci and they had five children, Marie also known as Mary, Josephine, Rose, Anna, and George.  Vincenza died in 1925, a year after giving birth to George.  For many years Antonio worked as a gardener for a Dr. Paulman, on Skiff Street in North Haven.  Antonio died in 1964.  He and his wife are buried in St. Lawrence Cemetery in West Haven, Connecticut.
